.Curious Sofa's French Market at the Kansas City Junior League Holiday Mart 2008

On Tuesday the Sofa team started again to fine tune our booth and by 2:00 (2:00 in the afternoon!!!) we were finished. Some final tweaking was done today but I returned especially to shoot these photos. As I watched the rest of the vendors frantically setting up, I was so glad this event did not get the best of me. Now, if I can keep this pace for our Christmas Open House, I might be able to actually enjoy myself this season! I might even decorate my own house for the first time in 8 years.

As you can see the booth is jammed packed with smalls but it does not seem nearly as frantic in person as these pictures indicate. Many onlookers stopped us today and praised the booth. One said, "This is perfect Christmas shopping"- which is good. We have a different location this year and I am anticipating it to be so much better. Booth #517 in the NW corner of the only major intersection in the hall. At the end of this post, you'll see what else is there. (Just so you can see how different we are!)

Another midnight project, adding glitter accessories to some vintage photo

This harlequin board I bought at Round Top and had our logo printed over it.

My favorite project: These Curious Sofa pennants I designed and printed on canvas fabric paper and glued on a rope.

Vintage sign holders I also found in Texas with signs I made to point people to our booth.

Our wardrobe is important to me too, so I designed new art for the front of our aprons.
(Most say: Village Merchant/Purveyors of Oddities/Oldstuffologists

I bought this original French Postcard on Etsy to use for our Christmas Open House invitation. I had these printed with general info about the store to handout to new customers.

FANTASTIC!!!! Sitting in bed, just woke up, hubby brought me a cup of coffee....starting of my day with your photos...ahhhhhh
Seriously though...I pray you do phenomenal numbers. Go get em' Deb and crew!! My prayers and hopes are with all of us small retailers this season.
Such wonderful wares! Your blog is always a delight to read :)
So beautiful. This could be the closest I ever get to Paris. I love everything but especially all of the personal touches like the signs that point you to your booth, the postcard flyer, the banner and those aprons are to die for. You are so talented. Good luck on your Christmas open house..I hope to be there this year! Paula
Hey Deb,
Once again I'm almost at a loss for words. LOVE the French Market theme (and your sign is perfect). Love the new aprons, the old signs pointing to your booth, the pennants, the cds in the violin case, the old cart full of bushel baskets of smalls and I love the tea towels with individual letters embroidered so you can spell anything you wish.
It's all fantastic and my mind spins to understand how you can shop all year, remember what you have and then pull it all together into one amazing theme.
I'm not surprised that you worked out all the kinks this year and had a more relaxing time setting up. Congratulations. (I'm glad I'm not a vendor set up next to your booth)
Thanks for all the wonderful photos.
Robert
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about....someone who truly understands the art of display. Your booth is spectacular. Beautiful. Ok, the Farmer is out of town which means I can sneak in a getaway. I just popped over to Mapquest and discovered that it's 7 1/2 hours from my driveway to Kansas City. Gas is under $4 a gallon. Hotels.com can get me great rates.
I keep running over this scenario every time you post a special event but one of these times I'm really going to do it. And besides, it would make great blog fodder.

Your booth and wares are beautiful! Wish I were in the area to shop!
STUNNING.....
Everything looks SO gorgeous! Wish I could be there!!
Beautiful! I wish I could attend...looks like it would be a wonderful time!
Yea for being on an intersection! I can just hear shoppers now: "If we get separated, let's meet back by that glittery booth, you know the one that looks French?"
I love the ruffled panties and the way you displayed them! I like to do the same thing at lingerie showers.
That polar bear postcard is absolutely adorable!
You really do have a way with styling. Your kind of booth always draws me in and makes my heart beat a little bit faster!
Enjoy! If I lived close to KC I would be there! Thanks for sharing with us via blogland! Oh and good work not stressing yourself out! Kelly

Makes me want to jump in my car with a big bag of cash and head your way!!!!! WOW!!!!!!Spectacular!
Hi Debbie,
Your booth is so beautiful and your style and taste stunning. You kinda stick out from the other booths wares and I mean in a very good way!
Your signs and pennants and so cleverly made. I wish you all the best at your show! I also wish you were in California. :)
Take care,
Martha
Wowee Debbie, your booth is beautiful. I love your style and creativity. The pennants are so clever, and the sign fun. Your booth really kinda sticks out from the others and I mean that in a very good way. Just wish you were in California!
Take care, and I hope you do really well at your show.
Martha
VERY cool!!!!
Sallie
If I could only be there ...
I would snap up everything!
I am with the first comment, the artwork on your aprons is stellar. What about on a cream t-shirt? Or reusable canvas bags?I would wear a t-shirt all the time (while also wearing the naughty panties and decorating my house, of course)!
The Holiday Mart was always such a special way to jump-start the season. Way to take it up a notch. You never fail to inspire.
P.S. Your signage is over the top fabulous.
OK darlin', I wish I had run into you during antique week here..luv seeing Texas on your Kansas booth. You do rule with the very coolest display. Good friend of my husband recently moved to KC and when we come to visit, I WILL find your very cool shop. Wish I was there for this event, your booth is without equal! Hope you have great weekend!! WoW.
Congratulations Debbie, you've done it again! I only wish I was there with a wad of cash to shop.
No doubt, you'll knock the socks off of everyone who attends..wishing you much success - it is so well deserved given how much of your soul goes into everything you do!
Keep us posted on the event.
Debbie,
Well this time, girl, you have outdone yourself! The entire photo series leaves me smiling and longing to be there. You make it soooo inviting! I especially love the new aprons and the pennants you designed. I only wish I could zip over and shop.
Here's hoping that your booth will lead many folks to come to the shop and buy! Buy! Buy! You certainly give everyone plenty of reason to dream and spend!
Have a great holiday season, and come visit if ever you get to San Francisco.
BTW, you'd love our Alameda flea market. It's every 1st Sunday. So score a plane ticket and come before Valentine's Day!
Your fan,
Joan
Oh Deb it's positively breathtaking!!! WOW. Of course it's the best booth in the show but I really think you've outdone yourself this time... congrats!
Find time to do a book, will you please, dear???!!
It looks absolutely perfect - really wish I could be there.

WOW! What a great booth! The other vendors near you are not going to be happy - your booth will be by far the best looking and most interesting. It looks great, I don't see how anyone could just walk by - you HAVE to go in and buy something!!
How big is the booth? And would you mind sharing how you printed your canvas fabric paper banners?
Thanks for the photos!
My booth was a 10' x 20'.
I bought the canvas fabric paper here:
http://www.thevintageworkshop.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=24_30&products_id=97&osCsid=3q9a5f0gvkcuenqpsu2786s3j7
I designed the art on my computer within an 8.5 x 11 format, printed on this paper, peeled off the back and glued them to a rope.
It looked even better in person, and I was so happy to see a booth that cool there. It was a breath of fresh air in all the sameness. And I really like the watch I bought from you, thanks, it is so cute!
I am so ready to shop! I see lots of things i want to buy, are you selling things of your blog? Andrea
Love the pics! Everything looks yummy:) Good luck- Lydia
Oh my gosh !! that is beyond amazing !! SOOO gorgeous !
