It's been exactly one year since I traveled to my favorite antique show in Round Top, Texas and this year I am chomping at the bit to return and see my friends and shop the many dealers that are getting ready for this twice-a-year extravaganza.
My friend Carol and I will fly into Austin, pick up Heather Bullard at the airport, rent the U-Haul truck, shop for four days and drive back with tons of goodies jammed and jury-rigged in the back end.
We will shop all our favorite fields and tents, attend the popular blog party Theresa Cano has during every show and spend an evening with Linda and Ludmil of Willow Nest for dinner. Carol has a job shooting a few events for Where Women Create and of course pie will be consumed at Royers Cafe. (Every night if I have my way!) Four days will not be enough time but we are veterans now and know right where to find the stuff.
I cannot wait to see what Shelley Price of Sweet Pea's and Theresa Smith of Time Worn Interiors at Marburger and all the goods they have prepared and saved for this show...
photo from Shelley, aka Sweet Pea...as well as Mike at Blue Hills, Peg and John (aka French Vanilla) and the boys from Leftovers plus soooo many more vendors not listed here.
I always have my laundry list of things we need for the shop: Spring items, garden furniture and statuary, dressers, cabinets and side tables, art, mirrors, chandeliers and of course I am always hunting for the unusual and unexpected.
And a side note, I am lucky to have Where Women Create coming to the shop next week to shoot the store, my office and workroom for their September issue. And guess who I asked to shoot it?
Elizabeth Maxson! (Who is their featured cover story for May!) Batten down the hatches it should be one great spread if we can stop talking and laughing long enough to get a picture taken. Stay tuned!
Images taken by Elizabeth for her blog header. But here is my question for all of you before I go:
What are you always looking for in antiques?
What do you want for your home?
Has your style changed? Are you kicking it up a notch, switching gears or staying true to the things you love? (FYI: you can send your list via this comment page, I do not have to post it.)
Send me your wants and I'll add your items to my list.

Ok by me! Thanks for the mention! Looking forward to seeing you as well!
Theresa
Thanks for including me Deb, I am truly flattered to make your list. I have some killer stuff that I think you will love. Looking forward to seeing you and Carol and Heather.
Safe travels.
Shelley
Oh it's going to be a fun time indeed. Looking forward to seeing you all AND so glad you are coming to the party, T
we can't wait to see you and share a glass of vino... some good eats.. and always great stories... get some rest before you leave if you can and we will catch up when you get here.. Love Linda and Ludmil
Well, I am green with envy, but I guess the next best thing to being there is seeing it through your eyes! Going to Roundtop is on my bucket list for sure! I am so glad you asked...I can not get enough of the tiny things...scraps and bits and bins of tiny things to craft and embellish with. If you don't want to mess with that kind of thing, do you know someone in the KC area who does? Can't wait to see your shop after you get back!
Oh how I wish I could go with you to Round Top! But so swamped trying to catch up. Thanks for the plug - I will be posting a blog to announce it - as always - you are on top of things :-)
Yes we will be laughing and fooling around and probably trying to figure out how to get Pearl in some old crate or sitting next to some freaky antique... hahahah
Can't wait
Love
Elizabeth
Deb, I'm finding myself following what I see as a trend toward cleaner, lighter, less fussy. And my redone farm house reflects that, I think. (My husband is thrilled!) I'm drawn toward clear glass and unadorned linens. I'm looking for cleaner lines in tables (gotta have a new coffee table)and textural interests rather than complicated architecture. Maybe it's because I'm aging, but I'm lightening up! Again, my husband is thrilled.
I'm going to Roundtop with a van load of women shoppers. If, in the unlikely event I run into you somewhere in the fields, Please don't be embarrassed if I start snapping pictures like crazy! You're sorta revered around here.
I'm going to round top too. I wish I had your expertise so I would know exactly where to go. I went last Oct. for one day. My daughter and I were on a mission to find unique furnishings for her new house. This time I am shopping to furnish an addition (family room) in my house. I'm not sure about getting things shipped back to Utah. Hsve you ever shipped your finds?
Don't see how you do four days. Living north of Houston, we are beat just doing Marburger, one day! I would just love to follow you, Carol & Heather around! Eddie R was supposed to host us for a tag-along last year but he got too popular and cancelled! Boo,hoo. I am just going to look for inspiration! I have too much stuff now but always looking for more. I would love to find some scones for my dining room! It is a great time!!
I am always looking for beautiful old plates..soft colors, faded, time-worn, mismatched. I am always looking for ironstone...less than perfect, please. I want comfort in my home. I want texture and great lighting. I want amazing scents coming from candles and incense.
I am so jealious. This sound like a dream come true trip. Boy would I have fun! My daughter in Law is from Tyler Texas. Canton Texas is right by them. I need to go to the BIG Canton Texas craft fair. Do you know about that one?
I am working on my first vintage room right now. It's my grandma's room.
I love to collect milk glass and thimbles.
Have so much fun, can't wait to see pictures.
Hugs

My taste is ever evolving. I keep thinking I'll get away from rust, and sometimes, I do. More metal, less wood. More neutrals with pops here and there. Less. And that is scary. Less. hmm...Hope you come by and see me. I'll be set up at Zapp. I'll see you at the blog party, for sure! ~Mindy
I'm going to miss Theresa's blog party. Boo Hoo! I will arrive a couple of days too late. Have a great time!
Happy Hunting,
Teresa
I cannot imagine Eddie Ross in Round Top! But I could be wrong. He would love Marburger but the fields of Warrenton? Hmmm...
It took me 10 years of going to this show to know who and what to see. I have gone for 3 days and also up to 7 days. Although most dealers (with shops) get there the Wednesday before and snap up all the good deals, there is still so much to see and merch to find. You simply cannot see it all.
I learned from constant going what to focus on. Do I miss deals? You bet. Do I miss some unique items? Absolutely. You have to accept it cannot all be seen and done.
Because of the type of store I have I must focus on price first and essentials second. My customers will not spend $3,000 on an armoire from France no matter how fabulous it is. They will however spend $1,000 on a 10' zinc covered table.
When you shop for others, like I do, the cost of goods is priority #1. Therefore the hunt is exhausting. I WISH I could buy all the good stuff I see but I need to resell it to make a living and keep my customers budget in mind. Some dealers have affordable prices at this show but most do not. This is why any antiquing I do is a lot of work.
I would love to host a trip and take all of you here and there but it is far from leisure for me!
I have been to Canton twice but it is just not for me. Too much digging. I had someone ask me what is my perfect antique shopping trip. I said, "A one level antique mall with air conditioning and a bug burly Jethro to carry my stuff out to the car!" Throwing in a coffee bar would be icing on the cake!
I absolutely am so jealous that you get to spend time with so many wonderful women! I read all their blogs and secretly call them my friends. I just got so many goodies at your store. I bought the big train case suitcase! I love it! I am always looking for more great old silver pieces, nice and worn. I also love the loving cup I bought in your store and would love to have a "big brother" to add with it. I love the old ironstone too. I can't wait to see what fabulous things you find. I would love lower priced things that I can easily give as little gifts.
Oh how jealous I am!
I visited Round Top for the first time for the fall show. So completely overwhelming, but wonderful!
I'm an Oklahoman, but I got to visit your shop last week when I was in town for the Big 12 Tournament.
So, now for what you asked about...
In my home, I'm trying to transition from pretty/shabby to more of the industrial/modern look. I do still like the shabby, and I'll still mix that in, but just in smaller amounts.
Have so much fun, and can't wait to see what you come back with!!!
Jill/bellalulu
I am so glad some of us are moving away from shabby to industrial. I know the industrial touch has always been my passion. I try to do the mix because all of one is still too much. Sorry I missed you!
Glad to see that you are attending. Hope to see you there.
Come visit us at La Bahia - it's a fun venue and it starts earlier than many!
Mimi
We love La Bahia!! But save me some printed grain sacks this time! I won't get there until Sunday night.
My sister and I went to the last show and we are now hooked and love it! I would love to read more and maybe just find out your favorite places to shop. We have three days so not much time to spare. Our last trip we felt so rushed and missed so much. Any help or advice would be sweet! Thanks~ Susie
when i shop at antique stores, the things that always catch my eyes the most are antique plates, platters and mirrors! I especially love mirrors as there as so many uniquely beautiful ones in antique stores.
Me too! Love the mirrors. From gaudy gold to simple bathroom white.
I am thinking that the weather will be splendid! Can't wait!!
Happy Hunting,
Teresa
Sounds like a great trip. I have switched my home over to more neutrals over th pat year, but still have my color...the red kitchen will always be me....I love the new induistrial things that Time Worn Interiors has been showing...and of course anything under a glass cloche!
