Preparing for the monthly antique show at Top Hat can be a daunting task. Just when I think I have figured out the formula to design my spaces efficiently, something shifts and I have to adjust (hmm... sounds like life!). People are always amazed when I tell them I am at the store every single day getting things ready for the next three day show. I guess it must be the artist or perfectionist in me that puts myself through this routine (who me?). This month I found a wonderful old trestle table with matching benches that I knew would be the anchor in my beach themed space but it had to be a different color. Usually I am not one to repurpose anything because I prefer 'as found' but the design of this was too enticing. So two weeks were spent preparing that and then the seashells arrived! What a glorious mess those were but customers love them. Last night, I found myself down to the wire yet again, but grateful for the assistance that does come along when you need it most. My sister helped prepare my shell tray art, my niece helped steam clothes and another dealer hung all new lighting in my three spaces. Once everything is in place and the piles and piles of tags have been attached then the cleaning begins as these old buildings are ruthless. Then in the final hour (sometimes at midnight) the photography starts, not only for me but for all the dealers as well as I handle Top Hat's Facebook page. So take a look around at the finished displays and try to come down and see me and all the other great items in the store.
