No. I've been waiting to venture out one day and finally browse the store in person! At least all you're fabulous things will still be available online.

Best of luck on your future endeavours.

Oh my gosh Debbie I can even begin to tell you how sad this makes me. I'm super happy for you and your future endeavors, but the store has meant so much to me over the years - since the very beginning on SW Blvd. I will miss you and Heather, Dana, and Abby and will always have such warm memories of the store (especially since so much of my home is filled with wonderful things I've purchased there!). Very best of luck to you - I know whatever you do, you'll be enormously successful. Happy Holidays. : )

I know it must have been a difficult decision, but will trust that it is the right decision for you. I can only hope that this means much BROADER exposure for you. I've been planning a roadtrip from VA to KC (and will do so anyway), but had hoped to see your store in person. I wish you the very best!

Boo hoo. But at least you are only moving to a different life, not closing altogether, love your blog and creativity.

Hello my friend. So okay I never made it to the Sofa in person but I did get to know you along the way. And you rocked it... As a former shop owner I get the excitement at a new direction for your biz. I know you will take wing and totally fly with whatever is on your horizon. I will always hope that I see you standing along the barrier on Tuesday morning at Marburger... You have been and remain a huge source of inspiration for me. Keep on keepin' on girl, the best is yet to be.

Hugs,

Shelley

I was so sure that I would get to visit Curious Sofa when I head up your way in the Spring...but I am happy that I was able to purchase a lil' piece of CS online not so long ago, and will continue to shop your online store.

Congrats, Debbie! As a former indie shop owner, I know how the long hours and endless business concerns can change a person from the inside out. So sorry to hear this I got my postcard friday and was shocked.

I have only been to your store twice and loved it. I did buy one of those rugs with the wriitng on it and Old English letters. have it in my office at home. Maybe you have seen it in some of my pictures.

Glad to read your not sad and you have a new adventure ahead of you.
Since you are a trend setter can't wait to see what's new in buying and selling vintage , old and junk to redo i mean that in a good way.

I will be watching to see what 's coming

As a fellow shopgirl I'm sorry to hear that you are closing your store...
Over the years I have enjoyed seeing all your great store displays and used some of them in our store and they were a big hit.
I always gave you credit for your ideas... the angel wings on the chairs and the witch legs coming out of the urn.
Thanks for thinking outside the box and all your inspiration.
Good luck in your new venture...you still get to shop... :)

...online shopping is convenient and awesome in so many ways, but there is something so special that's being lost as our beloved independent retailers close and move that direction.

There is nothing like a warm, personal greeting from friends (and I really mean friends - Heather, Abby, and Dana know more about me than some of my *real life* friends do and have supported me in so many ways over the years - my daughter was little when I began shopping with you - and we came in every Tuesday after piano lessons for years - she is graduating from high school this year - hard to believe!).

There is something real and awesomely, thrillingly tactile about entering a beautiful space, picking up a good-smelling candle, listening to pretty music, touching an airy linen spread, feeling the real-time ambiance of the thoughtful displays you and your crew spent weeks imagining, picturing what your own space could be..if only...it transports you.

I can't even put into words how much these things have meant to me over the years.

I will truly and wholeheartedly miss the experience of being with these kind, talented and generous people, and this beautiful space. : (

I am just sick. :-( I'm glad that you'll still have things available through the internet but it just isn't the same as going out and hunting for that special treasure. I wish you all the well, and I'll continue to read your blog and take a peek online.... but so sad. All the "good" stores are leaving... okay, I'm going to go cry in the corner now. ;-p

I'm with Abby. Although I know it will be bittersweet for you Debbie. I miss my customers the most but when it's time for a change, there's only ONE thing to do..go WITH the flow! Good luck with your future endeavors and Happy Holidays.
p.s.(they'll be out in droves now!!) xo

hmmmmmmm... I know it's a good move for you. I will just miss walking in, smelling the amazing candles and seeing all the eye candy in every direction. I know you'll have incredibly displayed and merchandised photos, I know. I will definitely miss those visits that excite my every senses.

Change is good.

The thing I will miss the absolute most about the store closing will be the one-of-a-kind absolutely AMAZING Halloween Open House. This is my favorite holiday and I always found so much inspiration at Curious Sofa. I'm so excited to be up in KC at Christmas, though, and I cannot wait to shop one last time (in-person) at this beloved store.

I think sweetbittertart said it best-"online shopping is convenient and awesome in so many ways, but there is something so special that's being lost as our beloved independent retailers close and move that direction. "

Having an online store isn't a walk in the park..it is very time consuming unless you hire someone to run it, but I'm sure you know that already! Wishing you the best..have lots of tissue for the last week!

Debbie & your wonderful Staff! I traveled to your most special shop last December from Oregon and was amazed by your fabulous store you've created! I am sorry to be a little heartsick for those customers that will miss out on visiting your retail atmosphere in person, but happy for you to be able to focus on an 'online shop' that will still give all of us a chance to bring a little curious into our homes! Thank You for making our lives more beautiful! Amen to you sista and blessings with all you do! --Whitney Edman

Sad for me, because I've wanted to shop your store in person for years, but just haven't been able to get that far. But hopefully good for you in all you want to do in the future.
Good luck.
(And please continue to make your online world just as visually juicy and yummy as the pictures of the store always have been).

Say it ain't so! You've spoiled us Kansas Citians rotten with your fabulous style and ACES STAFF!! I, too, have made it a habit to take frequent strolls in your store - beginning on the Trafficway. I love the smell, the incredible (so dark at times) displays (where else can one find doll torsos stuck on a stick?), that one of a kind find - but most of all, I will really miss seeing Heather and Abby and the rest of your great group. Best of luck and please update your blog with where everyone lands. Annie

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. I know closing Curious Sofa will leave a large void in the Kansas City area. (If it didn't, I would not have done a very good job!)

The decision was a long and hard one but it is time for me to move on. I have had TEN WONDERFUL YEARS and my creative soul is ready to rest awhile and move on to other exciting ventures.

Yes, the staff is very sad and all of us will miss our customers but this blog and the website will continue stronger than ever. I hope to offer even more fabulous inspiration that you have come to expect from me and Curious Sofa.

ONWARD!

Hi Debbie~Blessings to you as God leads you in new and exciting directions! Merry Christmas and next year you can really relax and enjoy your holiday. This is the first year in l0 years I haven't had a retail store/or leased boutique space! The peace, joy and time to "be still" is such a blessing! I LOVE it and so will you! Immerse in the "happy/sad" feeling now, and it will pass!

I am so glad that I've had the opportunity to visit your lovely store in the past on a trip to KC.
I will continue to follow your blog, which I've always enjoyed.
Ten years is a l o n g time to run a retail store, and a tribute to how well you managed your business. I look forward to seeing what you've got up your sleeve next.
Best wishes, Deb.

When visiting my dear friend, Barb Elcock, your store was first on my list. I had discovered your beautiful store in Country Living a few years ago and your blog served as a visual feast and resource. But seeing the store in person...a Masterpiece.

With a talent such as yours, only good things are to come. I wish you much success and look forward to your next stage!

I have been in denial since I got the postcard with the big letters, "STORE CLOSING." (It was just the icing on the cake that week!) I have made several trips from Wichita to KC since I discovered you, so it feels like a home away from home to me. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being in your store---my favorite store in the whole wide world---and my only reason to go to KC. It is always food for my soul and there's nothing even close to replacing it. You did very well, Debbie, and I'm sure you will continue to use your incredible talents, but an online store just isn't going to cut it for me, my dear! I wish you well...

Having closed my antique shop in Lenexa this past Feb., Debbie is right it is a personal and very difficult decision. But, we aren't getting any younger and the entire world awaits when selling online. I love your shop and will be in for the sale and will check into your website. All the best in the future.

Debbie and Staff: Please know how very sad we are to learn you are closing Curious Sofa in the Village. Sad for us...not for all of you...your creativity and engaging personalities will carry you forward to new and better things ahead! ...and we will shop on line! However, we have so very much enjoyed the sensual pleasure of browsing your delightful shop...always an enjoyable and uplifting experience. Our very best to all of you at Curious Sofa...

Oh no, I never got the chance to visit, and was actually planning a trip to Curious Sofa later in January with my friends! Now I will never have gotten the chance to go--my loss for not getting on the ball sooner.

I'm sure it was an agonizing decision to make, but probably a relief as well. I can only imagine the tingle of excitement for your future plans, and will enjoy keeping up with you on the blog.

Hi Debbie I've been a curious sofa fan for years(although I never made the trek from NJ to the shop) I'm sad to hear your closing your shop but on the same note as a former shop owner I Just wanted to share a little with you. At this exact same time last year I shut down my shop after 4 years. It was such a hard decision but when I made it I knew it was right. I must say this past year, working online and having a once a month market has been the best thing ever. I've had more business success (several deals with Anthropologie) and home life success than ever. I really hope you have as much peace of mind and success as I have had since letting go of the store. Bravo to you for making a tough decision....wishing you much happiness and success with your new business twist.
hugs
